I am an Australian, who was born in New Zealand. I live in Melbourne with my husband, Jim, and which ever children have not left the nest, or are returning to the nest. This is a fluid thing and can change at any time! My children are Cara, James and Kevin.

In 2001 Jim and I opened Michelle's Sewing Basket, a small patchwork shop in our local suburb of Ringwood. The shop was a great success and three or four years later we became Husqvarna Viking Dealers. As our business grew, we moved to premises that were larger and better located, and before we knew it we were also dealers for Pfaff, Handi Quilter, Singer and now Singer Professional and Singer at Home.
Along the way we also started our wholesale business MAD Patchwork (the MAD stands for Michelle Aitken Designs). MAD Patchwork distributes Thangles and Hot Ribbon Art, as well as a range of my patterns, and my very popular MAD Strip Club!
Last year I created a second website for both my customers and the shops that stock my products, called Michelle Aitken Designs. This website was created to give customers access to the unique projects and instructional DVD's for working with 5D Embroidery Software.
In the past 12 months I have semi-retired from the day to day running of the retail shop, and am spending my time at home working on our various websites, social networking (including this blog), writing tutorials and developing samples and new programs for all our businesses.
I spend a lot of time digitizing and absolutely love the challenge of creating designs in 5D Embroidery Software.
I am blessed with a wonderfully supportive family, and since Jim and I have been working together for more than 20 years now, that is a good thing!

Right now I have several new projects on the go, and this is just how I like my life to be .... always busy and exciting.
I share this blog with my wonderful staff at Ringwood Sewing Centre, and at our new Long Arm Quilting Centre. Louise, Pam, Anne, Mary and Jacqui are all incredible sewists and craft's people and they will be sharing our sewing pleasures with you all!
